The Native Village of Eyak is committed to offering prevention care to the people of Eyak and Cordova.
Happy and Healthy
Every Monday night in our Ilanka board room we host “happy and healthy” group which is an informal nutrition and general wellness forum. Guest speakers include registered dieticians, naturopaths and MDs. Healthy cooking classes, new ways to exercise and general information on how to stay healthy and prevent disease are the curriculum for this group.
Living Well Alaska
At select times throughout the year, NVE also offers “Living Well Alaska” classes. This is a 6 week long course on how to manage and live with chronic disease.
Diabetes
NVE recognizes the growing epidemic of diabetes in our Native population as well as the general population. We are actively working on prevention and management of this disease. We have hosted “diabetes mapping” sessions, sponsored a diabetes walk and have a library available for education.
Workout Room
NVE has a workout room available to the public 24 hours a day. The room has treadmills, recumbent bicycles, free weights and other equipment to keep you fit throughout the winter and summer. The key is available to check out from the police station.
Walking Group
Mon-Thur at 11:00 AM in Cordova’s long term care facility NVE sponsors a walking group. Everyone walks according to their capabilities, the community is welcome.
Laughter Class
Fridays NVE holds a laughter class, taught by certified laughter staff.
Health Fair
NVE is hosting the annual health fair this year, which gives the community the opportunity to receive inexpensive bloodwork and educational information on all Cordova health providers.
