Certified Nursing Assistant/Medical Assistant
Job Summary:
The nursing assistant performs nursing procedures and patient care tasks under the supervision of an R.N. or L.P.N.
Essential Functions:
- Performs I & O; checks vital signs and weight.
- Performs sugar and acetone urine testing, specimen collection.
- Provides for comfort needs of patients.
- Works effectively as a team member in the delivery of care and assists in the orientation of new employees.
- Utilizes resources and materials in an efficient and safe manner.
- Maintains a safe and attractive work environment for patients and co-workers; transports patients and equipment as appropriate.
- Promptly answers patient’s calls and requests.
- Reports observations of a patient to the nurse or doctor caring for the patient to ensure professional assessment.
- Instills confidence in the patient by maintaining a neat and attractive appearance and performing duties in a competent and caring manner.
- Shows dependability by being punctual; maintains consistent attendance.
- Maintains good work relations among all the personnel at the Clinic through appropriate communication.
Additional Responsibilities:
- In special areas, performs duties as defined on specialized-skill list.
- With specialized training, and written approval, may perform additional and specialized tasks pertinent to assigned area.
- Accepts reassignment as needed to provide necessary care to our patients.
Education and Experience:
- High school graduate preferred.
- Successful completion of nursing assistant course or the equivalent.
- Previous Clinic/Hospital experience with acceptable references preferred.
- Experience may be substituted for education.

Clinic Nurse
SUMMARY:
Ilanka Community Health Center (ICHC) is a program of the Native Village of Eyak (NVE). ICHC is a primary care clinic that cares for all patients, regardless of ability to pay.
The Clinic Nurse provides support and assistance to medical providers and coordinates direct patient care while facilitating patient flow within the clinic.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides direct patient care:
- Assesses patients for urgency of needs and prioritizes by acuity in a professional and friendly manner.
- Demonstrates technical skill when providing direct patient care, including vital signs, medication administration, and patient education and nursing assessments.
- Assists medical providers with procedures and treatments
- Implements standing orders, as approved by the Medical Director
- Prioritizes phone calls and returns call within designated guidelines
- Assesses patient’s knowledge base and learning style and provides patient teaching as needed or requested.
- Maintains accurate and appropriate records and documentation of nursing care
- Utilizes communication skills effectively
- Provides effective leadership through professional role-modeling
- Assists in adhering to all regulatory requirements and guidelines
- Participates in professional development of self and team
- Assists with the Quality Assurance process
- Operates standard office equipment.
- Maintains strict confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to the job position.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Received: Works under supervision of Medical Office Manager and the Medical Director. Supervision is received through personal conferences, general observation of work in progress and periodic review by supervisor of completed work.
Exercised: None.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Current (annual) TB screening is requested of all ICHC employees. Hepatitis B immunization is optional.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Current Alaska LPN or RN license
- Prior nursing experience required. One year experience in an outpatient primary care setting preferred.
- CPR / BLS certification preferred
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of established nursing concepts, principles and practices
- Knowledge of computer systems and applications.
- Read, speak, understand and write proficiently in English
- Organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple activities and tasks.
- Skill in medical procedures and practices
- Must have strong analytical thinking skills
- Ability to determine and assess the needs of the patients
- Ability to effectively interact in a professional manner with patients, medical and administrative staff, and the public.
- Ability to deal effectively with difficult people.
- Ability to function effectively within a team.
- Ability to work independently and to use good judgment in work prioritization.
- Ability to handle a large volume of detail-oriented work in a sometimes stressful environment.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, stand, sit, and to talk and hear. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and reach. Must be able to input and retrieve computer data. Visual acuity must include both close and distant vision. Must be able to distinguish color. Must be able to regularly lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Some lifting of patients is required.
