FISHERIES RESEARCH TECHNICIAN
Description
This is a full time seasonal position, anticipated season being May 1st through mid- to late- July.. You will be expected to live and work full time 7 days per week at a remote research facility on the Copper River. You will be responsible for sampling fish and collecting high quality scientific data, as well as contributing to the daily activities of operating research fishwheels and a remote field camp.
Job Duties
• Conduct daily sampling activities, which will include identifying, counting, tagging and/or recording biometrics of chinook salmon and other bycatch species.
• Assist in entering collected data into a master database and daily update spreadsheets
• Work under the supervision of Camp Lead to provide high quality data to project managers
• Assist with maintaining equipment and research facilities, including fishwheels, boats, cabins and
tools
Requirements/Qualifications
• BS or BA in a science related major, OR college student with a declared major in a science related field and minimum 1 year completed coursework, OR 3+ years work experience in fisheries or similar OR any combination of the above (required)
• Proven experience conducting scientific research or similar (required)
• Physical ability to work long hours outdoors, with strength and endurance to continually lift very heavy objects (required)
• Experience handling and/or tagging large, live adult fish (preferred)
• Experience with operating small boats, particularly in swift river water (preferred)
• Ability to maintain and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment including outboard
motors, diesel engines, generators, computers, alternative energy systems, appliances, etc. (preferred)
• Experience with light carpentry or construction, and the proven ability to safely operate a wide range of powered and manual hand tools (preferred)
Compensation
Competitive Wages, Room and Board. Travel between Cordova and field camps. Up to $300 reimbursement towards travel to Cordova (receipts required)
Camp Lead
Description:
This is a full time seasonal position, anticipated season being May 1st through mid- to late- July. You will be expected to live and work full time 7 days per week at a remote research facility on the Copper River. You will be responsible for supervising technicians and coordinating all operations necessary to obtain high quality fisheries data at your facility.
Job Duties
• Supervise up to 5 fisheries research technicians and interns
• Work closely with project managers both in the field and through satellite communications • Coordinate daily sampling protocols
• Supervise and assist with daily sampling and camp maintenance activities
• Enter all collected data into a master database and daily update spreadsheets
• Provide daily email or website updates to project managers and collaborators
• Assist project managers with preliminary analysis of data as required
• Coordinate regular supply inventories and work with field logistics coordinator or camp support technician to obtain needed supplies
• Assess condition of equipment including boats, fishwheels and electronics, and work with camp
support technician, field logistics coordinator and project managers to make necessary repairs
• Keep technicians well informed and content in their work environment
• Prioritize needs and keep the projects running smoothly despite often difficult working conditions • Contribute to improvements at the research facility which improve work efficiency, data quality, crew comfort, supply organization and resource utilization
• Other duties as assigned by project managers.
Requirements/Qualifications
• BS or BA in a science related major OR equivalent 4+ years work experience in a similar capacity (required)
• Postgraduate student in fisheries or similar field of study (preferred)
• Skilled computer literacy, including ability to install and configure computer hardware and software,maintain MS Access databases, maintain and work with MS Excel spreadsheets, create documents in MS Word, make website updates through an FTP server, etc (required)
• 2 or more years experience closely supervising other workers (required)
• Highly developed communication and conflict resolution skills (required)
• Proven experience leading scientific research or projects of a similar scale and quality (required)
• Ability to maintain and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment including outboard
motors, diesel engines, generators, computers, alternative energy systems, appliances, etc. (preferred)
• Experience handling and tagging large adult fish (preferred)
• 500+ hours experience operating boats (preferred)
• Experience operating jet boats in swift river water (preferred)

Enrollment Clerk
The enrollment clerk shall be responsible for maintaining the official enrollment files for the Tribe.
Duties Include:
- Maintaining accurate, confidential tribal member files, including individual and member lists.
Following NVE enrollment ordinances in all matters of enrollment. - Scheduling regular meetings of the enrollment committee.
- Bringing suggested changes/interpretations to the enrollment committee for recommendation toNVE Traditional Council.
- Working with the enrollment committee to approve an annual voter’s list.
Providing technical support for the election committee chairman. - Maintaining knowledge of election ordinance.
- Working with agencies within and outside of NVE to maintain accurate tribal member rolls, and to facilitate member applications.
- Creating, maintaining and updating a tribal member database.
Responsible for soliciting and completing tribal member IDs. - Responsible for assisting Alaska Natives with membership and CIB applications.
- Works with patient advocate and others to facilitate timely release of proof of Indian blood for Medical payments.
Skills and Experience
This position requires experience in access database, Microsoft office, and record keeping. Good organizational skills, ability to work well with others, to be pro-active and work well with minimal supervision.
Education
High school diploma required, associates degree preferred.
