Capital Projects

Capital Projects Team

Our team is responsible for Roads, Trails, Housing, Weatherization, and other projects.  Our team consists of 6 full time permanent employees, and 4 full time seasonal employees.

Our roads team has various projects going on this year; we are working on the Hartney Bay / Whitshed Road Extension Project, Summer Brush Clearing Project and as always are working towards our Emergency Oil Spill Response Facility to be located at Shepard Point.  New this year, NVE has received a grant to complete a Alternative Transportation Plan, funding is being provided through the FTA.

Housing is once again doing our very successful mini-grant projects, for qualified Native families.  As well as applying for additional funding for other projects.  NVE has attained it's Commercial Contractors Endorsement through the State of Alaska and have begun doing Weatherization work for ACDC, in efforts to help qualifying Cordovans insulate and heat thier homes.

Shepard Point Project:

The purpose of the project is to construct an oil spill response facility and deepwater port, which is needed to improve Cordova's existing oil spill response capacities.

The new facility will maximize the efficiency with which Codova can support a response effort. The proposed facility at Shepard Point would consist of a dedicated deepwater port with all-tide access, additional staging and storage area, and an access road to the Cordova road system. The facility would allow all-tide transfer of out-of-region supplies such as boom, skimmers, sorbents, anchors, tools, and personal protective equipment from the all-weather airport at Cordova to a wider variety of response vessels than can currently use Cordova's port

Construction of a Cordova Oil Spill Response Facility would enhance the regional spill response capability that presently exists in Prince William Sound (PWS), by providing all-tide access and efficient flow of pre-positioned and out-of-region equipment, supplies, and personnel to vessels responding to oil spills in PWS and the northern Gulf of Alaska.
