Happy and Healthy Group...

The NVE Happy and Healthy Group meets each Wednesday at the Masonic Hall from 6:30-8pm and consists of a group support meeting with a separate, private weigh in, and a one-on-one consultation with a leader before the group meeting. The focus of the group meeting will be to celebrate success, discuss strategies that work, and talk about nutrition in a positive, friendly, and comfortable atmosphere.

We want to show members that they are not the only people with barriers and are not alone in working for a healthier lifestyle. If you would like a little support, please feel free to join us. Please contact the NVE office and ask for Jackie Ladd or Jeanna Van Brocklin for more information.

Fitness Program...

Do you want to benefit? NVE has a program that is setup with the Bidarki Rec. Center for NVE members with a diabetes diagnosis, or are at risk for diabetes who would like to lose weight but can’t afford the high cost to join a gym. If you are interested in more information about this program please contact Jackie Ladd, Jeanna VanBrocklin, or the Ilanka Clinic.

We have also set up a mini gym with newly purchased fitness equipment including an elliptical trainer, a recumbent bicycle, a treadmill, a weight bench, and free weights. We hold fitness classes 5 days a week, M-W-F 6:30-7:30am step aerobics and T-Th 10-11am low impact/chair aerobics. We will resume our monthly walking group in June, and will meet the first Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM to take a group walk and then distribute personal walk tracking sheets so that each participant can keep track of their distance for the month.

Healthy Cookbook Library...

The Native Village of Eyak’s diabete wellness program received a donation of cookbooks and would like to share these with our tribal members. They are available in our office to be checked out. We have numerous Weight Watchers® cook books, various diabetic cook books, monthly meal planning, and 30-minute meal cookbooks- just to name a few. We also have many recipes available for anyone that would like a copy of them. Please stop by and take a look at the diabetes program library.

Upcoming Events...

NVE also plans to offer a variety of health conscious activities ranging from Exercise Bingo to healthy cooking classes where we share a recipes with members, demonstrate it’s preparation, and finish the activity by sampling what was prepared. We have also received requests to hold a line dance workout class, a Pilates workout class, and Tae-bo classes. If you are interested in participating in any of these classes or have suggestions for others, please contact Jackie Ladd or Jeanna Van Brocklin at NVE for more information about upcoming activities, or to have your name placed on our contact list.
